Student Learning Outcome 1:
My post of discussion in Week 8 in GEO 001 helped me reach Student Learning Outcome 1: Demonstrate scientific literacy by analyzing and interpreting physical geography data (from the atmosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere) and comprehending scientific methodology and its limitations. In my discussion, I looked up about climate change and was able to understand about that it was affecting the world today since the hottest years globally occurred after 1990. Understanding this fact lead me to understand that this is result of climate change. In my discussion, I posted that the human activities causes climate change and is not part of Earth’s processes, despite some scientists claiming it. When reading the article, I was able to find out that the carbon dioxide level has increased super highly from the time of the preindustrial periods. It must be that human’s input of factories and other industrial buildings caused climate change. This is one of my best assignments because I was able to learn about climate change and its potential effects on the Earth. I was able to interpret geographically of the hazards.
While doing this discussion, I was using my reading comprehension to analyze and interpret the scientific article. I was able to understand some of the scientific terms by using online. I don’t really read scientific articles or journals often, so it was a definite help for me to grasp the terms. I felt that my reading skills improve after reading the scientific article. Scientific journals and articles are usually hard for me to understand completely. I was also able to learn more about climate change as a result. I now realize from the author that climate change is a serious threat to the world. An example is that the rise in sea levels might cause more floods than normally. My perspective has been changed about global warming and there are ways I could to make it slower. We must recycle and not drive too much.

Student Learning Outcome 2:
My post of discussion in Week 6 has helped me reach my Student Learning Outcomes 2. The Outcome states: SLO 2: Demonstrate global literacy and awareness by analysis and interpretation of the complex global patterns and processes of the atmosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere. In doing the discussion I was able to analyze and interpret of global physical geography pattern and changes. It was my best work for this student
learning outcome because I can understand what pattern is responsible for the malaria occurrence and the moisture level of the United States. I found out that malaria is more common near the equator of the Earth, particularly in Africa. Malaria are known to occur in hotter regions of the Earth. The insect that cause is called plasmodium parasite. Many of them appear in the dry regions of the Earth. When researching the moisture level of the United States, I realize that the eastern side of the United States is generally moister than the western side of it. One reason for this is that rain occurs more on the eastern side. The area that are exceptionally moist seem to be very close to the Atlantic Ocean. The Atlantic Ocean probably had carry out warm moist air masses to the area close to it. I have learned that the States in the Midwest are very dry especially in Wyoming and Colorado. One reason for this is because they are far from the ocean and there is little rain.
Doing this assignment, I’ve learned how to read maps and find patterns. After finding patterns, I would find research to why that pattern would occur. I find what is responsible for the results. It helped me to how to analyze better, which would help me in life. I feel like my research skills have helped me improve the most. My research helped developed an understanding of the pattern on those maps. It helped me gain more vital knowledge of the geographical world.

Student Learning Outcome 3:
My Student Learning Outcome 3 was reached when I was doing the Tornado Safety Checklist for my first group project in GEO 001. Student Learning Outcome 3 was: Formulate geographic research questions and hypothesis to evaluate solutions to complex real world physical geography problems. In problems where there is a tornado alert, the checklist was very helpful. I use my research skills to find out what was needed to prepare for the tornado. I wrote what can be done during it and items to gather after a tornado. I also use my writing skills, not copying exactly from word to word to condense the length of words because the project’s standard was only one page. For example, during a tornado, stay low as possible at all times because the wind might level you up in the air, which is likely to cause death.
This s my best work for this outcome because I was able to learn about the real world problems. Since tornadoes can occur (but rare) in the area I live in, I must be able to use the items necessary to prepare for it. Someday I’ll travel in the middle parts of the United States and this information would make me more confident since tornadoes are more common there. The guidelines of what to do during a tornado are very important for survival. I can apply my knowledge to real life. My survival skills have improved a lot after doing this project. For example, I learned to stay low most of the time in a tornado. I realize I need more items than expected after a tornado struck. Items that are needed after a tornado like canned foods and money are important in case I get hungry or thirsty. Money helps you get the things you need if your home is not being restored. I realize I have to always have plentiful of canned food or any food you can eat after a natural disaster truck since the disaster might cause things not to work for a long time. Needing a flashlight was a good reminder because it helps see the dark since the lights may not be working. Doing this project lead me to see information of other works of people choosing another natural disaster. I also learned solutions of real problems cause from hurricanes. For example, during a hurricane we must stay as high when it strikes. I have seen many items to prepare for this disaster.
